  • Ben Franklin

The Ben Franklin building, pictured below, was renovated during the fall and winter of 2002-3. The project utilized Community Development Block Grant matching funds, as part of an ongoing renovation of the downtown area. The front of the building was redone in stucco and brick, as prescribed in the Downtown Design Guidelines.

Here is how the storefront looked before the renovation:

The internal layout of the store is also being completely reconfigured, with the two current entryways replaced with one center entry. The custom framing portion of the store is being enlarged and moved to a more prominent position near the new front windows.

The second story facade has lit windows with shutters, but a true second story was not able to be included due to structural considerations. The building is approximately 100 years old, and was previously renovated approximately 40 years ago.

Prior to Ben Franklin, the building housed Enggren's dry goods and clothing stores.
