Holyoke Plaza
In March, 2006, Enggren's Market celebrated 100 years in business. A two-day community event was held on March 17 and 18. Just a month after the 100th anniversary celebration, Enggren's Market closed their doors noting the influx of the state's biggest grocery chains moving into the community. We just can't compete” stated Jody Braun, the fourth-generation owner.
ENGREEN'S MALL BECOMES HOLYOKE PLAZA
In the summer of 2006, Mark Hotzler of Metro Equity Management purchased the Enggren building naming the property Holyoke Plaza. A number of tenants vacated the building which allowed Metro Equity to make major renovations to the building. Mainstreet Coffee Café and Flora, Etc. remained in the Plaza.
The first new tenant to move into the building in April of 2007 was the Hockey Development Center, now known as Total Hockey Minnesota. The 24,000 square foot facility at 20775 Holt Avenue is comprised of a two-thirds size ice rink and dry-land training space and offers year-round skill development programs.
On April 1, 2008, Mainstreet After Hours opened its doors as a downtown bistro offering a selection of 25 different wine varieties and 35 flavors of beer as well as plates of appetizers. The space, formerly the home of First National Bank, had been occupied by Thisweek/Life & Times that moved their offices to Burnsville in August of 2007. The bank's safe is used as a small wine cellar. Owner, Tracy Hummelgard, later added an outdoor patio at the rear of the building.
Flora, Etc. had been a tenant in the Enggren building for 14 years before moving to a smaller storefront in June of 2008, becoming a lessee of Holyoke Plaza. The new space allows owner, Amy Povroznik, to simplify her business and focus on flowers and arrangements.

A fitting business to locate next to the hockey center came about in July of 2008 when Varsity Sports opened for business at 20770 Holyoke Avenue. The store specializes in athletic gear and Lakeville sports apparel. In addition to selling gear for hockey, lacrosse, baseball, softball, soccer and football owner, Tom Kelly, also provides skate sharpening and hockey equipment repair.
Also in July 2008, an upscale boutique, The Pink Door, opened at 20784 Holyoke Avenue. Owner, Lisa Vossen, sells a wide selection of goods from gifts and home décor, a large selection of baby items and clothing for adults.
The last available space in Holyoke Plaza was leased by Kris Aunan. She had two shops in downtown Lakeville on Holyoke Avenue, Porch….for your home and Fairfield Trading Co. In August of 2008 she combined both stores under the name of Porch...for your home. The shop features a wide selection of home décor. (In September of 2010 Porch downsized and is now located in The Lakeville Mall.)
In September of 2009, a mural was completed on the wall of Holyoke Plaza adjacent to the Mainstreet After Hours patio. A committee of the Downtown Lakeville Business association and Friends of the Lakeville Area Arts Center designed and painted the mural which depicts Lakeville's Antler's Park in the early 1900's. A dedication ceremony was held September 15th.

The Downtown Lakeville Business Association special service district is a non-profit organization supporting the preservation and redevelopment of historic downtown Lakeville. Questions? Comments? Please email Judy Tschumper, DLBA Executive Director.
